Marvel Studios’ upcoming series Vision will return to its roots, starring Paul Bettany. Faran Tahir will join the show reprising his role as Raza, a character he played in the studio’s first feature film, Iron Man (2008).
Bettany will return as a ghostly white version of the synthezoid he first played in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron. James Spader will also reprise his role as the villain AI from Age of Ultron. Todd Stashwick (Star Trek: Picard) will also be playing an unspecified character.
Tahir’s character’s return, nearly 20 years after his first appearance, will mark the longest gap between appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. It’s an even more impressive feat considering Raza, best known for kidnapping Tony Stark from Robert Downey Jr., the man who inspired the star to become Iron Man, was killed during filming of “Iron Man” by the main villain, Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges). But of course, death is never a permanent state in the MCU. Bettany’s Vision dies in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” but will return in the 2021 Disney+ series “WandaVision.”
As reported exclusively by Variety, Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys) is executive producer and showrunner on the Vision series, which is set to premiere in 2026.
Tahir is also a “Trek” alumni, having played the captain of the U.S.S. in the opening sequence of Star Trek: Kelvin in 2009. His other credits include the feature films “Elysium” and “Escape Plan,” and the TV series “The Old Man,” “12 Monkeys,” “Scandal” and “Once Upon a Time.”
