Epic Games plans return to iOS in Europe

Epic Games has secured an Apple developer account and plans to launch the Epic Games Store for iOS in Europe later this year, according to a new blog post.

Epic Games announced that “start developing the Epic Games Store on iOS soon thanks to the new Digital Markets Act.” However, Epic Games did not reveal a specific release date.

Today’s post continues: “Epic Games Sweden AB will operate the mobile Epic Games Store and Fortnite in Europe, with the Store team leading development.”

For context, the post also explains that “Epic Games Sweden has 3 studios and 60+ employees”.

Today’s news follows a long legal battle between Apple and Epic Games. Just last month, Apple announced it was seeking $73 million in legal compensation from Epic Games.

In an Epic Games blog post, he looks back at 2023, and it was certainly a big year. Fortnite has expanded to include Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing.

Both modes have proven successful so far, and Fortnite Festival already has a great Riffmaster guitar controller.

Most recently, there was a significant partnership between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the main Fortnite game.

Just last week, Disney also announced a major collaboration with Epic Games. Disney invested $1.5 billion in the new Fortnite universe.

Disney said in its earnings call that it is “will bring together Disney’s beloved brands and franchises with the hugely popular Fortnite in a transformational new games and entertainment universe.”

Disney’s major investment is a notable milestone for Epic Games, and the new world could expand to include countless IPs.
