Just one month after Star Wars Day, the latest installment in the Star Wars series has finally been released. Set 100 years before the series’ prequel trilogy, Acolyte will be available on Disney+ on June 4 at 6 PM ET (9 PM PT).
The new series is set in the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe, making it the furthest timeline the series has ventured into live-action. The official logline for the first season reads, “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.”
The streamer released the official trailer for the series in March. The teaser shows a Jedi Master played by Lee instructing a group of young people, as well as a disguised assassin played by Stenberg attempting to kill a fellow Jedi played by Carrie-Anne Moss in a cantina. The group of Jedi then begin searching across the galaxy for the killer, before taking them all down one by one. In a key battle scene, the Jedi draws his colorful lightsabers and prepares to battle an assassin wielding his own red lightsaber.
Variety exclusively reported that Acolyte was in the works in 2020. It was officially announced by Lucasfilm at their annual Star Wars Day celebration later that year.
Acolyte is Disney+’s newest Star Wars show, while the new series Skeleton Crew is still waiting for a premiere date. The streamer has previously released shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett. Filming for Andor season 2 recently wrapped. Disney+ is also home to the popular series The Mandalorian. The show has aired three seasons so far, and a film is set to begin production later this year.
“The Acolyte” will be available to stream on Disney+ starting June 4 at 6pm PT.
