Next month, “The Zone of Interest,” which took home the Oscars for best international film and best sound this past Sunday, will be accessible for home streaming.
The movie can be seen on Apple TV+ and Prime Video, and it will be available for purchase or rental on Max on April 5.
The main characters in Jonathan Glazer’s extremely praised film are Commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Huller), who lead an apparently ideal existence with their kids in a house that is very near to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
It’s the most recent Holocaust film to win an Academy Award. Being the only movie to qualify for both best picture and international feature categories this year, the movie had five nominations going into the Oscars, which probably helped it win the international trophy. Additionally, this is the first time a British movie has received the award. While many thought “Oppenheimer” would win best sound for the picture, Tarn Willers and Johnnie Burn’s victory was one of the biggest below-the-line surprises of the evening.
Mr. Glaser gave the most political speech of Oscar night, using his time on stage to denounce the Israeli-Hamas war. According to the Academy’s official lecture notes, the British filmmaker said: “All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say look what they did then, but rather look what we do now.” “Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst. It’s shaped all of our past and present. Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people. Whether the victims of October — whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist? ”
