It appears that a few of Hollywood’s busiest bees will keep adding films to their already extensive resumes. According to a report published by Deadline today, Guy Ritchie (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) is directing Fountain of Youth, a new Apple TV+ original film starring John Krasinski (A Quiet Place) and Natalie Portman (May December). The action-packed adventure will revolve around two separated siblings who work together to locate the title’s mysterious location. There are still no official information available, such as the dates of production or the addition of cast members.
The author of Fountain of Youth is James Vanderbilt. The screenwriter has written thrillers like Zodiac and 2015’s Truth in addition to blockbuster films like The Amazing Spider-Man, Murder Mystery on Netflix, and the most recent Scream films. Thus, it’s difficult to predict precisely which genre his upcoming film will belong to. However, given Skydance’s prior collaboration with Apple, this production studio may be directing a family film. It’s reasonable to assume that the streamer will want to hit gold once more after The Family Plan made history last month as the biggest movie launch on Apple TV+.
According to Deadline, Fountain of Youth was supposed to have been Skydance’s first priority as soon as they obtained Vanderbilt’s script; however, the movie was shelved due to the double strike from SAG-AFTRA and WGA last year. But the fact that everyone’s schedules were adjusted made it possible for Portman to join, which is always a good thing. Ritchie was also said to be quite busy, but he made time in his schedule to work on the project as quickly as possible, suggesting that there may be a twist to the plot that would catch everyone’s attention.
The futures of Krasinski and Portman might be more connected than you might think. Both of them made tremendous advancements in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023: Krasinski turned into Mr. Fantastic (in a different timeline) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Portman fully realised her potential as a superhero in Thor: Love and Thunder. Naturally, the likelihood of Portman and Krasinski’s paths colliding in the superhero universe seems remote now that Marvel Studios is starting over, but you never know with Marvel.
For the time being, though, all we can anticipate is seeing the two of them together on The Family Plan. Apple TV+ has not yet disclosed any other information about the film, such as its official synopsis or genre. Stay tuned to Collider for updates on the new film as soon as they are revealed.
