All Android users will receive free advanced Gemini features from Google

Google is getting ready to roll out its advanced Gemini Live features-such as camera access and screen sharing-to all Android users at no cost. Initially reserved for subscribers of the Gemini Advanced service, these powerful tools will soon become freely available, marking a significant expansion in access. According to a report from 9to5Google, Android smartphone users can expect these features to arrive soon, offering them a taste of premium-level AI without the monthly price tag.

These capabilities were first introduced by Google at MWC 2025 and are powered by Project Astra, the tech giant’s latest multimodal AI assistant. Project Astra is designed to enable natural interaction between users and the digital world through their device’s camera and screen. By combining sophisticated visual recognition and real-time AI response, Gemini Live allows users to ask questions based on whatever is displayed on their screen or seen through their camera lens. This innovation aims to deliver smarter, more immersive assistance by integrating AI into everyday device interactions in a seamless and intuitive way.

Initially, these upgraded Gemini Live tools were only accessible to those using high-end smartphones like the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25, provided they subscribed to the $20/month Google One AI Premium Plan. However, Google has now confirmed that support will expand to all Android devices running version 10.0 or higher, including tablets and foldables.

Once activated, users will be able to use the screen-sharing function simply by launching the Gemini overlay and selecting the new “Share screen with Live” option. A counter icon will appear in the status bar, showing that screen sharing is active, and a notification styled like a phone call will accompany each Live session. Users can continue navigating apps and websites while chatting with Gemini, receiving a slight vibration whenever the assistant prepares to respond. Stopping the session is just as easy-just swipe down the notification panel and tap “Stop sharing.”

The camera function works similarly. Users may activate the viewfinder and swap between front and rear lenses by starting Gemini Live in full-screen mode and clicking the corresponding camera icon. For optimal performance, Gemini suggests holding the device steadily to better capture objects. During demonstrations, Google showcased how a user used this feature to seek help choosing the right paint color for newly glazed pottery. The display must remain active while using the camera, ensuring Gemini Live can analyze the visual feed in real time.

With these upcoming changes, Google is making powerful AI tools more accessible, offering a smarter and more interactive mobile experience for all Android users.
