On Wednesday, Netflix revealed that its ad-supported, less expensive tier now boasts 94 million monthly active subscribers, up more than 20 million since its last public count in November.
The business and its competitors have been depending more and more on advertising to increase the profitability of their streaming services. The ad-supported package was initially made available by Netflix in November 2022.
At $7.99 a month, Netflix’s ad-supported plan is significantly less expensive than its least expensive ad-free option, which costs $17.99 a month.
“When you compare us to our competitors, attention starts higher and ends much higher,” Netflix president of advertising Amy Reinhard said in a statement. “Even more impressive, members pay as much attention to mid-roll ads as they do to the shows and movies themselves.”
Additionally, Netflix reported that its most affordable tier reaches more people aged 18 to 34 than any other broadcast or cable network in the United States.
