Google has introduced its latest image-generating AI model, Imagen 4, which it says significantly outperforms its predecessor, Imagen 3, in both detail and quality. The announcement was made during the company’s I/O 2025 event, where Google highlighted the model’s ability to produce high-resolution visuals that capture fine elements such as water droplets, animal fur, and intricate fabric textures. Imagen 4 supports a wide variety of visual styles, from hyper-realistic images to abstract artwork, and can generate pictures in multiple aspect ratios with resolutions of up to 2K. According to Google, the model represents a major leap forward in terms of output clarity and precision. Josh Woodward, who heads Google’s Labs team, emphasized that the new model not only improves visual fidelity but also delivers much better results in handling text within images. “We’ve focused a lot on refining how Imagen 4 generates typography and text, making it ideal for uses like presentations, invitations, and content that combines words with imagery,” he said in a press briefing. While there are already several advanced image-generating tools in the AI space - including popular ones like ChatGPT’s image function and Midjourney’s latest version - Google claims Imagen 4 sets itself apart with its speed and upcoming enhancements. The company noted that Imagen 4 is already faster than Imagen 3 and that a new version is in development which will be up to ten times faster. Users can now access Imagen 4 through the Gemini app as well as across Google’s ecosystem, including Whisk, Vertex AI, and Google Workspace apps like Slides, Docs, and Vids. This wide integration aims to make the tool easily accessible for both creative and professional applications, further positioning Imagen 4 as a versatile solution for high-quality AI image generation.
