A new Star Wars film is slated to feature Baby Yoda, sometimes known as Grogu, making his big screen debut.
The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will go into production later this year, have been given to director Jon Favreau. In a statement, Favreau stated, “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created.” “It’s very exciting to think about bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen.”
Although the plot’s specifics are yet unknown, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy described the narrative as “a perfect fit for the big screen.”
The Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal, has emerged as one of the most well-liked and highly regarded new characters in the Star Wars world since his debut in the self-titled Disney+ series. With a fourth season on the way, it received an Emmy nomination for best drama series.
In addition to starting the show, Favreau has penned and directed a number of its episodes. In addition, he directed The Lion King and Iron Man.
The decision was taken to concentrate more on exploring the universe on the large screen than the small screen, and the movie is the first of many that will be released in the Star Wars franchise. Disney CEO Bob Iger stated last year, “You pull back not just to focus, but as part of our cost containment initiative.” “Making less and spending less on what we make.”
In a film helmed by Canadian-Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who will make history as the first woman and person of colour to helm a Star Wars movie, Daisy Ridley is expected to make a comeback as Rey. She declared, “It’s about time a woman came forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away. It’s 2024 now.”
James Mangold, Donald Glover, and Taika Waititi have further films planned. Regarding his movie, Waititi has stated, “It’s going to irritate people.”
Additionally, in recent years, Lucasfilm has announced and then shelved a number of Star Wars projects, including films directed by Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige, the leader of Marvel.
The most recent Star Wars movie was Rise of the Skywalker, which took in $1 billion worldwide but had mediocre reviews.
