When Does ‘Dune 1’ Go Live? How to Watch?

On Friday, March 1st, the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s space epic Dune will be released in theaters. Fans and would-be fans are eager to see Part 1 before going to Part 2 and are looking for his version to stream. Dune 1 is no longer released in theaters, so this is the only version available.

The film stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, with Chalamet playing the role of Paul Atreides. Paul is in the middle of a massive battle for his one of the most important resources in the universe: “Spice.” Spices come from the desert planet Arrakis and basically improve everyone’s functionality. This is extremely important for intergalactic travel and colonization. Paul’s father Duke Leto, played by Oscar Isaac, is sent to Arrakis, but Paul and his mother Jessica, played by Rebecca Ferguson, are left alone in the desert where they are not welcomed. Zendaya plays a young girl named Chani, one of the indigenous Fremen of Arrakis. And don’t forget about the giant space worm that regularly messes things up.

Adding even more star power to the cast are Jason Mamoa, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, Chang Chen, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, and Golda Rosheuvel. The cast of Dune 2 was expanded to include Souhelia Yacoub, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

How can Dune 1 be streamed?

October 22, 2021, saw the simultaneous release of the first installment on HBO Max and in theaters. For those with a subscription, it stays on Max, and for those without one, it’s currently available on Hulu. Along with several other streaming platforms, Apple, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, and others are also offering it for rent.

If you simply cannot get enough of Dune, you can also watch David Lynch’s 1984 version on Max.
