There are just two teams left in the NBA’s first-ever In-Season Tournament.
The Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers will face off for the tournament championship after winning the IST semifinals on Thursday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks were the two teams with perfect 5-0 IST records facing off in the East semifinal. Despite a game-high 37 points from Giannis Antetokounmpo, Tyrese Haliburton’s 27 points, 15 assists, and zero turnovers helped Indiana win 128-119.
Conversely, there wasn’t nearly as much competition in the West semifinal. The New Orleans Pelicans were destroyed 133-89 by LeBron James and company on the blue and red court. In just 23 minutes of play, the 38-year-old James scored 30 points on just 12 field goals, gave out eight assists, pulled down five rebounds, and was responsible for four of the Lakers’ 17 3-pointers.
With perfect 6-0 records in the IST, the Lakers and Pacers now proceed to the championship game. However, only one team will take home the first NBA Cup and the $500K in prize money awarded to each player.
