Supergirl: Three Actresses Will Try Out for DCU Hero Roles

It appears that three actresses are being considered for a screen test to play Kara Zor-El, the superhero of the DC Universe.

Milly Alcock, Emilia Jones, and Meg Donnelly are reportedly going to screen test for the role of Supergirl, according to a Deadline story. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is still looking for a director, but an actress is wanted since the character might show up in another DCU project before her standalone film.

Screen test results are expected to be announced within the next month, and James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and director of Superman: Legacy, is “definitely part of the process,” according to the site.

Before the change at DC Studios, the two most recent actresses to play Supergirl were Alison Benoist in The CW’s Supergirl series and Sasha Calle in 2022’s The Flash.

What will happen in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow?

Gunn described the main plot of the comic it is based on when he announced the new DCU, despite the fact that an official description for the film has not yet been released.

“Supergirl in this story is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton, whereas Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents,” Gunn said. “She’s a much more jaded character because she witnessed everyone around her perish in some horrible way.”
