NBA: The 2023–24 season is ranked by Metta World Peace among the “Top 5 eras” of basketball

Metta World Peace, the former Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers, has never been one to keep his own thoughts to himself. Peace has recently drawn criticism for a number of player rankings he has published. Now, the 2010 Lakers champion has made waves on social media with a new, controversial statement.

Recently, Metta World Peace shared his opinions about the current NBA and how it differs from previous iterations of the Association on X, a platform that was formerly known as Twitter.

“Man. This NBA season so far is top 5 eras in the history of the nba,” wrote Peace. “Players really stepped up their games.”

For as long as basketball is played, there will be debates about which era is the greatest. Few can contest the fact that elite players are now starting to play year-round basketball at incredibly young ages, honing their art to the point where offensive skill sets are objectively far more advanced than they have ever been. This is certainly the most talented era in the history of the sport.

But this also begs questions about the calibre of competition in the NBA, as teams are fully adopting the (objectively smart) strategy of shooting more threes, which isn’t to everyone’s taste, and as players’ skill sets become harder and harder to guard, scoring numbers are rapidly rising.
