NASA is developing on ChatGPT-like assistant for astronauts

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is working on a natural language interface, similar to ChatGPT, that will allow astronauts to use voice commands to control their spacecraft.

It won’t be restricted to simply progressed moves all things considered. An autonomous system that can manage payloads, transmit data, monitor health, and more is the ultimate objective.

According to reports, the framework will permit normal discussions with the artificial intelligence and permit them to fix issues by conversing with it, instead of scouring through pages of extended manuals.

“The idea is to get to a point where we have conversational interactions with space vehicles and they [are] also talking back to us on alerts, interesting findings they see in the solar system and beyond,” said Dr Larissa Suzuki, speaking at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in London.

Dr. Suzuki, for instance, envisioned an AI-controlled interplanetary communications network that could identify and resolve any issues.

“It then alerts mission operators that there is a likelihood that package transmissions from space vehicle X will be lost or will fail delivery,” she said. “We cannot send an engineer up in space whenever a space vehicle goes offline or its software breaks somehow.”

The system will be installed by NASA on Lunar Gateway, a proposed space station that will support the Artemis Mission, which aims to establish a long-term human presence on the moon.
