The first pictures of Jeep’s future electric SUV have been released by Stellantis, the legendary American brand owned by the company. The corporation hasn’t revealed any further specifics, including the vehicle’s name, but it has confirmed that the new electric vehicle will be released in 2023.
In comparison to many of its competitors, Jeep has been slower to adopt electrification. The Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs already have plug-in hybrid variants, and the Trailhawk, an off-roading version of the Grand Cherokee, will have a hybrid powerplant as well.
However, the unnamed SUV set to debut next year will be Jeep’s first all-electric car. By 2025, the carmaker plans to deliver “zero-emission” versions of all of its vehicles, as well as plug-in hybrid models.
The new Jeep EV would be part of Stellantis’s broad strategy to electrify the lineups at most of its brands, which was announced last year when Fiat Chrysler joined with the French PSA Group. EV versions of the Ram 1500 pickup truck and an electric Dodge muscle car are among the options.
Stellantis also teased the next Ram 1500 pickup on Tuesday by posting photographs of the vehicle’s lighting configuration. The image looks to be merely a design sketch, implying that Ram has not yet decided on a final design for its planned electric truck. In addition, Ram is developing an electric ProMaster delivery truck that will join Amazon’s fleet in 2023.
Both the Jeep EV and the Ram 1500 EV are expected to be built on Stellantis’ STLA platform, which is one of four platforms the manufacturer will use for its planned EV portfolio.
Stellantis actually left parts of the vehicle’s design outlines in the teaser image, which shows more of the truck than the automaker’s marketing staff probably would have desired, as highlighted by Roadshow’s Daniel Golson.
