Hey Guitar Gods, The Smashing Pumpkins are Hiring!

The well-known alt rock group that rose to prominence in the 1990s with singles like “Cherub Rock” and “Tonight, Tonight” is looking for a new guitarist and is accepting applications.

The band posted on X that “the application process is open to anyone who might be interested” and encouraged interested parties to submit their resumes and any relevant materials.

The most current incarnation of the band was fronted by Jeff Schroeder from 2007 to 2023, when he made his departure known.

The Smashing Pumpkins, who were first formed in Chicago in the late 1980s, were well-known for fusing dreamy pop music with metal. They achieved great financial success and became a touchstone band for Generation X before splitting up in 2000.

The band was resurrected in 2006 by founding member, lead songwriter, and frontman Billy Corgan.

Over the past ten years, Corgan and two other founding members—guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin—have come back together.

With Schroeder’s departure, the rockers are now looking to add a fourth song to their repertoire in preparation for Weezer’s European tour, which is scheduled to begin in Birmingham, England on June 7.

They—and you?—will accompany the Saviours on their stadium tour with Green Day, Rancid, and Linda Lindas later in the summer. The trip is scheduled to start on July 29.
