Apple has 1.8 billion active devices in use right now

2021 06 30

During the holiday season, Apple made more money than ever before, and its expansion in 2021 helped the business gain 150 million new active devices. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the company now has 1.8 billion active devices during an earnings call with investors Friday night.

This is up from 1.65 billion active devices reported by Apple a year ago and 1.5 billion active devices recorded in January 2020. While Cook did not go into detail about the gadget, Apple passed the 1 billion active iPhones mark a year ago, after selling the billionth iPhone in 2016 and then 900 million active iPhone users in 2019. Apple considers a device active if it has used an Apple service in the previous 90 days, so the 1.8 billion figure includes a wide range of Apple hardware.

Last year, Google announced that the Google Play Store is now available on over 3 billion active Android smartphones. The total number of Android devices, including those that use other marketplaces, is almost certainly substantially more than 3 billion. Microsoft said earlier this week that 1.4 billion Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices are already in use. Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S consoles are also Windows 10 devices.

Apple experienced a record-breaking fiscal quarter, with revenue of $123.9 billion and profits of $34.6 billion. Thanks to holiday sales, the iPhone had a strong quarter, bringing in $71.63 billion in revenue alone.
