The split-view Now Playing makeover, which YouTube Music has been working on since last year, is now being broadly implemented.
At the top, you’ll note that the “Song” and “Video” switchers now use icons, and the cover image is significantly larger.
Old
The plan of the button carousel and main controls remains intact, however the progress bar has changed from a thin line and playhead to a thicker container. The line thickens as you tap and scrub.
Meanwhile, YTM has removed both “Lyrics” and “Related.” The bottom section of Now Playing is now dedicated to your Up Next queue. Swipe anywhere in the player (even the very top) to move it up halfway.
New
This redesign features a new dual-pane design that allows you to view cover art, controls, and what’s next. Swipe up again to return to the previous full-screen look.
Lyrics are located directly after the thumbs up/down capsule, and Related can be accessed by tapping the song title and right-facing chevron.
The split-view Now Playing makeover is now widely available on YouTube Music for Android (version 9.14) and iOS (9.15). This is a server-side upgrade, with the new look activated when the queue is dismissed and the app is forced to halt.
