In 2018, Realme began its journey as a wallet-friendly offshoot of Chinese tech powerhouse Oppo, quickly building a reputation for delivering high-performance smartphones at surprisingly low prices. Since then, the brand has been gradually evolving, moving away from its entry-level roots and venturing confidently into the premium smartphone space. When Realme recently held a launch event in Paris to unveil the GT 7 Dream Edition, a high-end device developed in collaboration with British luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin, the transformation was clearly visible.
With a price tag of around €900 (approximately $1,019), the GT 7 Dream Edition represents a bold step forward for Realme, underlining how far the brand has progressed. One of the phone’s standout features is its enormous 7,000 mAh battery – the largest currently available in a standard smartphone. What’s remarkable is that Realme managed to integrate such a powerful battery into a device that remains impressively slim at just 8.3mm and relatively light at 206 grams. For comparison, Apple’s latest iPhone Pro Max models match the thickness but weigh around 20 grams more, despite offering a smaller 4,685 mAh battery. This leap in battery capacity was made possible through advanced silicon-carbon battery technology, which enables higher energy density without increasing bulk. Originally seen in Oppo devices, this innovation is now a core part of Realme’s premium strategy.
The design of the GT 7 Dream Edition is just as refined. Its rear panel combines glass with graphene – a lightweight, thermally conductive material that helps manage heat effectively. The Aston Martin influence is evident in the device’s sleek silver wing emblem and elegant two-tone finish, reminiscent of a sports car’s streamlined aesthetics. The phone is packaged to reflect its luxury status, complete with a custom case and a unique SIM ejection tool, adding a touch of exclusivity.
Performance-wise, the phone is equipped with a vibrant 6.8-inch OLED display featuring a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring rich, fluid visuals. Its versatile triple-camera system delivers quality photography for everyday use. The basic GT 7 model, which costs about $700 and has the same MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset and huge battery, is an option for those who want the essential features without the Aston Martin name.
While partnerships between Chinese tech brands and European luxury names are not new – with Huawei and Xiaomi paving the way – Realme’s latest move shows a clear intent to redefine its identity. The brand is signaling a serious push into the high-end market, aiming to attract users looking for both premium performance and sophisticated design.
