Following just a few days of beta testing, WhatsApp has made its upgraded CarPlay experience available to all iPhone users. Here are the specifics.
CarPlay momentum continues
WABetaInfo noted a few days ago that WhatsApp was testing an upgraded CarPlay experience.
For years, WhatsApp’s CarPlay integration was limited to a simple voice interface that let users to compose messages and make calls.
With the update, which was marketed as an App Store event, WhatsApp’s CarPlay experience now seems much more organic to Apple’s in-car technology, including
- New features include a contact info interface for viewing profile details and a call history interface for tracking recent calls, including incoming, outgoing, and missed calls.
- Favorite contacts can be managed using a dedicated tab.
Today’s upgrade adds to a recent wave of CarPlay enhancements, with ChatGPT and Google Meet both introducing new native experiences.
ChatGPT recently upgraded their app to take advantage of Apple’s new support for conversational voice apps introduced with CarPlay in iOS 26.4. At the same time, Google Meet included new capabilities like the ability to join meetings, see upcoming events, and more.
WhatsApp, ChatGPT, and Google Meet are all available for download on the App Store.
