‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Finally Coming to Digital Platforms

Theatrical release windows have continued to grow longer in recent years, with studios increasingly allowing major blockbusters to remain in cinemas as long as audiences continue turning out. Few movies this year have put that trend to the test quite like Tom Holland’s latest adventure as Peter Parker.

Since arriving in theaters this summer, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has enjoyed a remarkable run at the box office, breaking records and reaching milestones that took other major franchises years to achieve. With its theatrical success continuing to build anticipation, fans have been eagerly waiting to learn when the movie would finally become available to watch at home.

That wait is reportedly coming to an end. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to debut on digital platforms on October 6, a little more than two months after its theatrical release. The home entertainment milestone follows an extraordinary box office run, with the film reportedly earning nearly $2.5 billion worldwide against a production budget of $225 million.

The movie’s budget is also notable within the Spider-Man franchise. At $225 million, Brand New Day ranks as the second-most expensive Spider-Man movie ever produced. It sits behind only 2007’s Spider-Man 3, which carried a reported $258 million budget and remained the franchise’s costliest production for nearly two decades.

The film quickly demonstrated why Sony was willing to make such a major investment. Brand New Day opened with $355 million domestically, giving it the second-biggest opening in box office history behind Avengers: Endgame. Its momentum continued throughout its theatrical run, with the movie becoming the fastest film ever to surpass $700 million domestically and the second-fastest to reach $1 billion worldwide.

Its record-setting performance continued well beyond those early milestones. Brand New Day eventually passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history. Strong audience and critical reactions also helped maintain its momentum, with the film earning a 98 audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A CinemaScore.

Fans who prefer physical media will not have to wait much longer after the digital release. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is reportedly targeting November 17 for the movie’s release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. The physical release is expected to include several premium editions, including a limited-edition SteelBook and a collector’s edition featuring a custom comic book and movie relic card.

Streaming viewers, however, may have to exercise more patience. Sony has typically followed theatrical and premium digital releases with an eventual exclusive streaming debut on Netflix for its Spider-Man movies. Based on the release patterns of previous installments, Brand New Day could still be several months away from making its streaming debut even after its digital release.

The relatively long gap between the theatrical premiere and home release highlights just how much confidence Sony had in Brand New Day’s ability to continue attracting moviegoers. The extended theatrical window allowed the film to capitalize on its unprecedented box office momentum before moving into the home entertainment market.

With its digital release now approaching, audiences will soon have the opportunity to experience Peter Parker’s latest chapter from home. After such a record-breaking theatrical run, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is likely to attract plenty of viewers when it finally lands on digital platforms.
