Anyone hoping to upgrade to the latest Mac Studio or MacBook Pro may have to wait a bit longer, due to the ongoing global memory shortage. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, “at least two of the company’s upcoming machines… could debut a little later than the company initially planned,” referring to Apple’s desktop and laptop upgrades, which are likely to have a touchscreen.
According to source, the next Mac Studio, which will supplement the current lineup in the M4 Max and M3 Ultra configurations, was originally scheduled to be released in the middle of the year.
However, Apple is already experiencing shortages of its existing Mac Studio supply, most likely due to the device’s popularity among those running local AI models. With no end to the shortages in sight, Gurman expected that the redesigned Mac Studio would be released in October instead.
It’s not just Apple’s desktop offerings that are affected. Gurman also stated that the next MacBook Pro could be delayed. While Gurman previously stated that the touchscreen MacBook Pro could be released between the end of 2026 and early 2027, he now predicts that it will arrive closer to the latter end of that timeline.
Of course, Apple is not the only consumer technology company impacted by the RAM shortage. However, Apple can at least capitalize on the success of its MacBook Neo release in the midst of the memory shortage crisis that affects all laptop manufacturers.
