Nio’s (NYSE:NIO) new Nio Phone has been added to a regulatory database, paving the way for its upcoming release.
According to CnEVPost’s inquiries to the China Quality Certification Center, the 5G phone with model number N2401 received China Compulsory Certification (CCC) certification on July 17.
As shown in the CCC certificate information, the manufacturer of this new Nio Phone, as before, is Hunan-based Lens Technology.
CCC is a mandatory product certification system in China that has been in place since May 2002 as part of efforts to protect consumer rights.
As CnEVPost previously reported, the first-generation Nio Phone received the CCC certificate on September 15, 2023 with model number N2301.
Nio launched the first Nio Phone at its Nio IN 2023 event on September 21, 2023, with a starting price of 6,499 RMB ($900).
The company’s executives have previously mentioned several times that the Nio Phone will receive major updates once a year, just like Apple’s iPhone.
The Nio IN 2024 event is scheduled to take place within a week, where Nio may launch the second generation Nio Phone, CnEVPost has learned.
On June 17, Ma Lin, assistant vice president of branding and communications at Nio, said on Weibo that the company has already started preparing for the Nio IN 2024 event.
The main feature of the first-generation Nio Phone is its interaction with Nio vehicles. The device features an action button that allows users to quickly launch more than 30 functions, including controlling vehicle functions such as adjusting the air conditioning and turning on/off seat massage.
In recent months, Nio has been giving away free Nio Phones to customers who purchase 2024 models to increase the appeal of its vehicles.
Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li said at a car owners conference in Wuhan in central China’s Hubei province on March 17 that development of the second-generation Nio Phone has been completed and has entered the production stage.
On July 14, Nio showed off the chassis features of its executive flagship sedan ET9 in a new video, hinting that the next-generation Nio Phone is coming soon.
