Meta Plans to Bring Business AI Chat Tools to Third-Party Websites

Meta is offering businesses AI-powered chat solutions that they can use on their own websites as part of its efforts to expand its primary business outside internet advertising.

On Thursday, the giant of social media unveiled Business AI, a digital assistant that allows businesses to provide their clients with more individualized product recommendations and expedited purchasing options through chat conversations. According to Meta, online retailers may utilize the Business AI digital assistant on their own Shopify-powered websites as well as on apps like Facebook and Instagram.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been investing billions of dollars on generative AI, which Meta is attempting to turn into a major business with the help of the new company-focused AI helper. Additionally, a number of tech businesses are launching AI agents, which are smart digital helpers that can automate time-consuming, repetitive tasks.

For example, Amazon released an AI agent for third-party merchants to employ for their online businesses in September.

At a press briefing, Clara Shih, head of business AI at Meta, stated, “We are going beyond ads and beyond Meta to help businesses drive impact across their customer experiences and customer operations.”

According to Shih, businesses will be able to integrate the Business AI digital assistant into their Meta ads for free, allowing their customers to interact with the Facebook and Instagram ads, ask questions about the products, and make purchases more quickly. Shih stated that the pricing, which has not yet been set, will be less expensive than other “market alternatives” if those businesses wish to utilize the Meta Business AI assistant on their own websites.

Shih declared, “We’re entering a new AI product category that improves our ads.”

Later this month, the Business AI digital assistant will also be accessible in Mexico and the Philippines on WhatsApp and Messenger, with further regions to follow, according to Shih.

Shih clarified that if businesses utilize the Business AI digital assistant on both their retail-focused websites and Meta apps, the program should ideally give consumers better answers to their questions about products.

According to Shih, as part of its business AI push, Meta is collaborating with organizations such as her previous employer Salesforce, Microsoft, ServiceNow, Zendesk, and others to offer chatbots and customer relationship management services.

“The best analogy is if you, as a customer, ask a salesperson about warranty information or a return,” Shih said about the way Meta’s Business AI software would work alongside third-party chat apps focusing on customer support. “Often, they’ll walk you over to the customer service desk to handle those more complicated requests.”

During the social media giant’s “year of efficiency,” in 2023, Meta spun out the enterprise CRM startup Kustomer, which it had earlier purchased for $1 billion in 2020.

Additionally, the company unveiled the Meta AI business assistant, a tool designed to help marketers with account issues and track the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns.
