Northern India celebrates the auspicious Hindu festival of Karwa Chauth. It celebrates the love between a husband and wife and honors the idea and sanctity of marriage.
In the Hindu calendar, Karwa Chauth is celebrated on the fourth day of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) of the Kartik month, which comes after Navratri.
Another name for it is Karak Chaturthi, where “Karwa” or “Karak” refers to the clay pot used to prepare “Argha,” a water gift for the moon.
According to drikpanchang.com, it will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, with the auspicious Karwa Chauth Puja Muhurta being performed from 05:58 PM to 07:11 PM. The fasting period will begin early at 06:08 AM and go till 08:36 PM.
During Krishna Paksha Chaturthi, which falls during the Hindu month of Kartik, Karwa Chauth is observed on the same day as Sankashti Chaturthi, a day for fasting in honor of Lord Ganesha.
It will fall on Friday, October 10, 2025, this year. This year’s Karwa Chauth Puja Muhurta is scheduled to take place from 05:58 PM to 07:11 PM, with the fasting period starting at 06:08 AM and ending at 08:36 PM, according to drikpanchang.com.
On Krishna Dashami, when the Karwa Chauth fast comes to an end, the moonrise is expected to occur at approximately 8:36 PM.
According to Drik Panchang, “Karwa Chauth fasting is rigorous and observed without consuming any food or even a drop of water after sunrise until the sighting of the moon in the night.”
In an attempt to grant her husband a long and healthy life, the wife fasts for the entire day without eating or drinking anything. She then breaks her fast after seeing and giving to the moon.
Karwa Chauth is a celebration that represents a wife’s devotion and love to her husband.
