On August 10th, I Am Groot will be available on Disney Plus. The Baby Groot himself is the focus of the animated series of shorts, with Vin Diesel repeating his role as the adorable anthropomorphic sapling’s voice.
In a tweet, Marvel Studios teased the next series by releasing an official poster with Baby Groot relaxing out atop one of Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) iconic Walkman headphones.
He’s lying down next to a palm tree-shaped air freshener, which reveals just how small he is, with two four-eyed penguin-like animals peering out from behind him (who are even smaller than Baby Groot). These two mischievous-looking animals haven’t been in any of The Guardians of the Galaxy films, but they appear to have a part in the forthcoming series.
Apart from the poster, Marvel and Disney haven’t said much about the programme, except that it would “following Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble among the stars,” according to Marvel. We don’t know if any other Guardians will appear in animated form in the show, or if it would only centre on Groot (and his very limited abilities).
Dug Days, Olaf Presents, and Ice Age Scrat Tales are just a few of the short series on Disney’s streaming service that follow the favourite side characters who may not have gotten enough screen time in the movies they were in. They are not denying that Disney milks these characters’ likability to the max, but I’m also not complaining.
I Am Groot will premiere on Disney Plus on August 17th, right before She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It’s the first original Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff, but it won’t be the last: in December, Disney will release a live-action Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be available exclusively on Disney Plus.
