Nintendo is giving fans a double dose of announcements this week, with two separate livestreams focused on upcoming games and projects. Before the company’s main Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, Nintendo will spotlight one of its most iconic franchises with a dedicated presentation celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.
The The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET on September 8 and is expected to run for approximately 30 minutes. Fans can watch the presentation through YouTube or the Nintendo Today! app. A livestream video will also be available to watch when the event begins.
One of the biggest highlights is expected to be Nintendo’s upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Nintendo has confirmed that more information about the game will be shared during the presentation. Since the remake is currently expected to launch sometime this year, fans could potentially receive an official release date during the Direct.
If Nintendo plans to keep the game on track for a 2026 release, a launch before the holiday shopping season would make sense. A November release, for example, could position the remake as a major Nintendo title during the Black Friday period.
Nintendo already has Nintendo Switch Sports Resort scheduled for October, so the company could be looking to build momentum with another major release later in the year. A new Ocarina of Time game could also attract significant attention alongside other major releases arriving during the holiday season.
The presentation may also provide new information about Nintendo’s upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 30, 2027, and the anniversary Direct could be an ideal opportunity to reveal additional details. Fans may even get an early teaser, with a full trailer potentially arriving closer to the movie’s theatrical release.
However, Nintendo could have more surprises planned for the 30-minute presentation. One possibility is news about another classic Zelda remake, such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. There is also speculation that Nintendo could offer an early glimpse at the next mainline Zelda game.
Nintendo first announced what would eventually become The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in 2019, two years after Breath of the Wild. With several years now having passed since Tears of the Kingdom, fans are understandably eager to learn what is next for Link and the Zelda series.
Whether Nintendo focuses entirely on its confirmed projects or delivers an unexpected announcement, the 40th Anniversary Direct could be an important presentation for Zelda fans. With around 30 minutes dedicated exclusively to the franchise, there should be plenty of room for major updates, new footage and potentially a few surprises.
