Disney+’s newest Star Wars series, The Acolyte, hit 4.8 million views on its first day of release. Disney said it was the biggest series premiere of 2024 for the streamer.
No exact premiere viewer total exists for the newest Star Wars series, Ahsoka, but Disney reported it took five days to arrive, with 14 million views. That’s an average of 2.8 million viewers per day, 2 million fewer than when The Acolyte began. (Note: “views” are calculated by dividing the number of minutes watched by each title by the running time.)
Variety critic Allison Herman compares The Acolyte to Andor and The Last Jedi for its “willingness” to put its own spin on sacred legends. “Furthermore, she noted in her review that the series is “propelled by plentiful action, much of it hand-to-hand combat heavily inflected with martial arts. But the action itself is rooted in conflict with stakes both large and small for characters we quickly come to care about.”
According to the official logline, “The Acolyte” follows “an investigation into a shocking crime spree that pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.” The cast also includes Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Leslye Headland served as series and executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Co-producers include Charmaine DeGrate and Kor Adana, with Rayne Roberts, Damien Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow serving as producers.
