Google announced when Gemini for Google TV would be available on other devices, such as the Google TV Streamer, along with the launch of the Gemini for Home voice assistant preview today.
The company acknowledged that Gemini for Google TV is currently only available for the TCL QM9K series, while being intended to offer a “experience optimized for large screen[s].”
Google only offered a “later this year” timeline back in September, but it has already reduced it to “this winter.”
Today saw the renaming of the Google TV Streamer, and it will also be available on Walmart’s 4K Pro, 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX models, as well as the 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models.
Similar to Nest Hubs and speakers, Google TV’s Gemini feature permits “free-flowing conversations,” particularly in relation to entertainment. When searching for something to watch, you can describe it to identify shows you don’t know the names of and also indicate your viewing preferences. You can also get reviews and use the recap tool.
Learning about new subjects and finding pertinent YouTube videos is another use case. Google said that there might be “more Gemini capabilities on TV coming soon” in the future.
