Facelifted 2026 Hyundai Verna spotted testing for the first time

Launched in March 2023, the fourth-generation Hyundai Verna is a sleek and performance-focused sedan in the C+ market with well-balanced features and elegant interiors. While the model has seen a fair share of popularity, it hasn’t quite matched the sales figures of its European counterparts, namely the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia, which have consistently outpaced it in recent months. In April 2025, Verna ranked third in its class, prompting Hyundai to consider a mid-cycle update to regain its competitive edge.

Recent spy shots captured in Ooty by car enthusiast Karan Rai suggest Hyundai is already testing a facelift version of the Verna. The 2026 model, expected to debut around the festive season of 2025, seems to carry forward Hyundai’s design philosophy of subtle refinement rather than drastic change. The prototype indicates minor tweaks, particularly at the front and rear ends, rather than a complete redesign. While the front fascia wasn’t visible in the images, the rear tail lamps appear almost unchanged from the current model, maintaining the connected LED light bar with signature LED dots.

Hyundai is likely to offer a revised front bumper and a toned-down overall front-end look. The LED DRL bar and LED headlamp setup are expected to stay, although the fog lamps might be omitted, following the trend seen in other recent Hyundai updates. The alloy wheels in the test mule are similar to those currently on sale, but this could be revised closer to launch. Other elements like the shark fin antenna, standard door handles, and chrome detailing on the sides are likely to be retained.

Interior updates might focus on improving technology and comfort. Hyundai could enhance the cabin with a larger touchscreen infotainment unit, support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and add features like front and rear ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, reclining rear seats, a rear wireless charger, rear window shades, and the brand’s Digital Key technology.

It is anticipated that the 1.5L normally aspirated and 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engines would remain part of the facelifted Verna’s powertrain selection. Transmission choices should remain unchanged, offering a 6-speed manual, CVT, and a 7-speed DCT. Once launched, this refreshed Verna will compete against the same trio that currently dominates the segment-Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and Honda City-aiming to capture a larger share with its updated styling and upgraded features.
