Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL), one of India’s foremost scooter manufacturers, has taken a significant step forward by entering the electric mobility space. Marking its debut in this segment, Suzuki unveiled its first electric scooter for the Indian market-informally known as the Access Electric-during the 2025 Auto Expo under the official name e-Access.
Now in May 2025, the company has officially commenced production of the e-Access, with the inaugural unit rolling off the assembly line at its Gurgaon-based manufacturing facility in Haryana. This development marks Suzuki’s formal foray into India’s rapidly growing electric scooter market, reinforcing its commitment to offering diverse mobility solutions that cater to the needs of modern commuters.
The e-Access was designed with urban riders in mind, offering a sustainable and dependable alternative for daily city travel. Built upon Suzuki’s proprietary e-Technology, the scooter is powered by a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. The company emphasizes that this powertrain has been rigorously tested under extreme conditions such as submersion, high and low temperatures, intense vibrations, accidental drops, crushing forces, punctures, and motor stress tests-ensuring high safety and durability standards.
A key feature of this e-Technology is the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector-e (SDMS-e), which offers a range of ride modes including Eco Mode, Ride Mode A, Ride Mode B, and a Reverse Mode. The electric motor supports regenerative braking and utilizes a belt-drive system that is not only quiet and efficient but also requires minimal maintenance.
Visually, the e-Access stands out with a design language that’s noticeably sharper and more refined than its petrol-powered counterpart, the 2025 Access. At the front, it features a sculpted apron incorporating a vertical LED daytime running light, flanked by turn indicators positioned further down. The sleek LED headlamps enhance its premium look, while the rear design remains subtle yet elegant. Dual-tone paint schemes, contrasting seat upholstery, and a large TFT display with advanced connectivity features all contribute to a high-end aesthetic.
The e-Access has a top speed of 71 km/h and a stated range of up to 95 km on a single charge. At its maximum, the electric motor produces 15 Nm of torque and 4.1 kW of power. Riding on 12-inch wheels with a front disc brake setup, the scooter is engineered for both performance and comfort. While Suzuki has yet to announce an official launch date, the e-Access will compete with rivals such as the Ather Rizta, Ola S1, Honda Activa e, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak once it hits the market.
