OpenAI today released Codex for Chrome, a Chrome extension that allows Codex to run directly in the browser on Macs and PCs.
Codex can use the extension to test online apps, acquire context across several tabs, use web DevTools, and perform other tasks without taking over the user’s browser.
OpenAI says that after launching Computer Use on the desktop Codex app, it discovered that the majority of routine workflows took place in the browser. The Chrome extension should make it faster and easier for Codex to assist with browser-based tasks that plugins or APIs cannot perform.
According to OpenAI, Codex has over 4 million weekly active users, an eight times growth since the beginning of the year. The Chrome extension is part of OpenAI’s larger aim to make Codex more helpful for everyday tasks while maintaining its utility for developers.
The Chrome extension can be installed from the Codex Plugins menu.
