Carens Clavis Debuts with Level 2 ADAS and Turbo-Petrol Engine in India

In India, Kia has officially introduced the Carens Clavis, with an ex-showroom starting price of ₹11.49 lakh. Bookings for the vehicle began on May 9, and it comes in seven variants, offering a choice between three engine types and eight distinct colour options. This new model will be sold alongside the current Carens MPV, which is now only offered in the base Prestige (O) variant across all its powertrains. Deliveries for the Carens Clavis are scheduled to commence next week. Visually, the Carens Clavis maintains the MPV-style profile familiar within the Carens lineup, but it features a refreshed front end, newly designed alloy wheels, and Kia’s characteristic connected tail lamps. The interior layout is largely similar to the existing Carens but has been enhanced with dual digital displays and a new blue-and-beige upholstery theme. Buyers can opt for either a six-seat or seven-seat configuration. Kia has significantly upgraded the feature list, introducing Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera system, electric parking brake, powered driver seat, multiple drive modes, and broader connected car functionality.

Under the hood, the Clavis offers three engine choices. The standard 1.5-litre petrol engine generates 113bhp and 144Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. With 158 horsepower and 253 Nm, a more powerful 1.5-liter GDi turbo-petrol engine is available with a six-speed manual, a six-speed iMT, or a seven-speed DCT. Another option is a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 113 horsepower and 250 Nm that may be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic.

Positioned strategically, the Carens Clavis spans a wide pricing bracket and competes with several models across different segments. In its lower to mid-range variants, it rivals models such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder. Higher variants will take on the entry-level trims of larger vehicles like the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.

Joonsu Cho, Kia India’s Chief Sales Officer, shared his comments on the launch and highlighted the company’s dedication to innovative technology and unique design. He described the Carens Clavis as a key step in Kia’s vision to deliver not just vehicles but holistic experiences that elevate daily commutes. According to him, the new model reflects Kia’s dedication to offering modern, design-oriented mobility solutions tailored for today’s families, while continuing to build trust and value in every journey.
