“Avatar: Seven Havens,” the latest animated series set in the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” universe, will premiere with three episodes before continuing with a three-episode weekly release schedule on Paramount+.
The series is set to debut Oct. 9 on Paramount+, with the first three episodes of its opening season, known as Book 1, arriving together. Three additional episodes will be released each Friday through Oct. 30. Paramount has also renewed the series for a 13-episode Book 2, although its premiere date has not yet been announced.
Along with the release schedule, Paramount has unveiled a new trailer for the highly anticipated series.
According to the official logline, “Avatar: Seven Havens” follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers that she has become the new Avatar following Korra. However, instead of being viewed as humanity’s protector, Pavi is feared as a potential destroyer in a world transformed by a devastating cataclysm.
Pavi must join forces with her long-lost twin, Nisha, as the sisters investigate their mysterious origins while facing threats from both humans and spirits. Their journey will take them across the Seven Havens as they attempt to prevent the remaining centers of civilization from collapsing.
The voice cast features Saheli Khan as Pavi, Aishu Devan as Nisha, Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.
“Avatar: Seven Havens” was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the co-creators of the “Avatar” franchise. Both serve as executive producers through Avatar Studios. Ethan Spaulding is also an executive producer, while Sehaj Sethi serves as co-executive producer. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios are producing the series.
The Oct. 9 launch date was initially reserved for the animated film “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.” The film’s release was later moved forward to July 25 after it leaked online earlier this year. It subsequently premiered on Paramount+ following a special screening at San Diego Comic-Con.
Speaking with Variety around the film’s release, Konietzko also discussed the South Asian influences incorporated into “Seven Havens.” He noted that the concept and name “avatar” have roots in Indian culture, traditions and Sanskrit, adding that the creative team wanted the new series to explore those influences more deliberately.
As part of that approach, the creators designed Pavi as a character inspired by South Asian culture, expanding on the real-world cultural influences that have shaped the “Avatar” universe since the original series.
