When the iPhone 18 Pro variants are announced later this year, Apple is likely to make an even big deal about them. That’s because the business is changing its launch approach to highlight its premium devices in a separate display.
The upcoming September event will feature the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, as well as a potential foldable iPhone. However, no mid-tier devices will join the ride this fall.
As far as we know, the standard iPhone 18 model will not be introduced this year; instead, it will be released in spring 2027, alongside the entry-level iPhone 18e and possibly the iPhone Air 2.
The iPhone 18 Pro variants are expected to feature a smaller Dynamic Island, a brighter, more power-efficient display, and a new variable aperture camera. There are unlikely to be any more big external modifications.
Aside from possible new colors (rumored to be Light Blue, Dark Cherry, Dark Grey, and Silver), the remaining changes are thought to be internal: an A20 chip using TSMC’s 2nm process for power and efficiency improvements, a larger battery, and Apple’s next-generation C2 modem chip, which could add mmWave 5G connectivity as well as support for 5G satellites.
The foldable iPhone, said to be called the “iPhone Ultra,” is said to have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen, the A20 CPU and C2 modem, Touch ID, and two rear cameras. As a premium offering, however, it is unlikely to be cheap; expect to pay more than $2,000.
