Huawei has unveiled the world’s first foldable PC, introducing the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design as a groundbreaking addition to the notebook segment. This innovative device stands out as the first foldable laptop to feature ultra-high pixel resolution in a portable design. Weighing just 1.16kg and measuring 7.3mm in thickness when fully open, the MateBook Fold is designed with mobility and elegance in mind.
An innovative dual-layer OLED display with a maximum brightness of 1600 nits and HDR capability is featured on this foldable PC. It is also the first commercial implementation of LTPO technology in the computer space, offering an adaptive refresh rate and optimized power efficiency for extended use. When folded, the screen displays in a 3:2 aspect ratio, while unfolding it provides a wider 4:3 viewing experience. The expansive 18-inch screen features a crisp 3.3K resolution, supports HDR vivid mode, delivers P3 wide color gamut, and achieves a high contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1.
To support this large and flexible screen, Huawei has developed a robust hinge mechanism measuring 285mm-the biggest of its kind in the industry. This hinge delivers a fourfold increase in hovering torque and doubles the load-bearing strength, thanks to its three-stage shaft design that ensures seamless transitions when opening or closing the device. With a larger range of viewing possibilities than a conventional MateBook, it remains stable even at angles as shallow as 0 to 20 degrees and remains stable from 30 to 150 degrees.
Cooling is handled by an advanced system comprising dual diamond aluminum fans and an ultra-thin antigravity vapor chamber heat sink, ensuring optimal thermal performance. The back of the MateBook Fold is crafted from a combination of leather and metal, lending it a luxurious appearance while providing resistance against stains and water. It also incorporates a built-in kickstand that allows for smooth positioning during use.
Running on HarmonyOS, the MateBook Fold integrates seamlessly with Huawei’s ecosystem, benefiting from distributed capabilities and HarmonyOS development support. The device also includes pre-installed WPS Office and smart features commonly found across Huawei smartphones and tablets. Thanks to its full-scenario interconnection via distributed soft bus, it can reach transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s and offers over four times the connection stability when linked with other Huawei devices.
The MateBook Fold is priced at 23,999 yuan (approximately $3,328) for the version with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage, while the variant with 2TB storage is set at 26,999 yuan (around $3,744).
