Microsoft has rolled out a fresh Windows 11 Insider Preview build, introducing notable upgrades to the Paint app and refining Windows Search capabilities. The latest beta update has been made available to Windows Insider users on the Canary and Dev channels, bringing enhanced AI-powered functionalities to Paint while also improving file search within OneDrive through semantic indexing. These new features are specifically tailored for Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs.
With this update, Microsoft Paint now integrates all of its AI-driven tools within a newly introduced Copilot menu. Over the past two years, Microsoft has infused the Paint app with several AI-powered enhancements, such as the Cocreator feature, which generates AI-assisted images based on user sketches. Users can adjust the level of AI enhancement to fine-tune their creations. The app also includes an Image Creator tool that transforms text prompts into images while allowing users to select a preferred artistic style.
Another notable AI capability is the Generative Erase function, which enables users to remove unwanted objects from an image while seamlessly regenerating and blending the background. Additionally, the one-click Remove Background tool simplifies the process of eliminating backgrounds from any image. In this latest update, all these AI features have been consolidated into a single Copilot menu, conveniently located on the right side of the toolbar. Clicking on the dropdown menu provides access to all available features along with brief descriptions. However, the Cocreator tool will remain exclusive to Copilot+ PCs.
Beyond enhancements to Paint, Microsoft has also expanded the reach of its semantic indexing feature within Windows Search. Initially introduced in preview last month, this upgrade now extends support to files and photos stored in OneDrive’s cloud storage, further refining natural language search capabilities. As with the Paint improvements, this enhanced search functionality will also be exclusive to Copilot+ PC users. Microsoft has not yet disclosed when these features will be available for all Windows 11 users globally.
